This year, Korea's exports exceeded 700 billion dollars for the first time on an annual basis. It is the first achievement in 77 years since the establishment of the government. After the United States, Germany, China, Japan, and the Netherlands, Korea became the sixth country in the world to record $700 billion in annual exports.According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Customs Service on the 29th, cumulative exports exceeded 700 billion dollars this year as of midnight. South Korea's exports have steadily increased, starting with $125.1 billion in 1995, exceeding $600 billion in 2018 and marking another milestone in seven years. This is the result of more than 36,000-fold growth from exports of $19 million in 1948. The average annual growth rate is 14.6%. Even earlier this year, there was a great concern that export conditions would deteriorate due to the burden of tariffs from the United States. In fact, exports fell in the first half of the year, but as external uncertainties eased in the second half of the year, the recovery became clear, especially in major industries. In terms of exports by major items through November this year, semiconductors were $152.6 billion, up 19.8% year-on-year, driving overall exports. Automobiles increased 2% to $66 billion, ships increased 28.6% to $29 billion, and Bio increased 6.5% to $14.7 billion.[Reporter Kang Inseon]
